Title : Environmental Management Systems – Requirements and guidance for use
ICS : [13.020.10]

State : IN FORCE

Technical Commissions : [Environment]  [Environmental management systems]
Effective date : 16 September 2015
Withdrawal date :
Summary : The standard specifies the requirements of an environmental management system that an organization can use to develop its environmental performance. The standard is intended for an organization that wishes to manage its environmental responsibilities in a systematic way that contributes to the environmental pillar of sustainability. The standard helps an organization to achieve the expected outcomes from its environmental management system, which provide added value for the environment, for the organization itself and for the interested parties. Consistent with the organization’s environmental policy, the expected outcomes of an environmental management system include: – the achievement of environmental performance; – the fulfillment of compliance obligations; – the achievement of environmental objectives. The standard is applicable to any organization, regardless of size, type and nature, and applies to the environmental aspects of its activities, products and services that the organization decides it can control or influence, considering a life cycle perspective. The standard does not establish any specific criteria of environmental performance. The standard can be used, in whole or in part, to systematically improve environmental management. Statements of conformity to this standard, however, are not acceptable unless all the requirements of the standard are incorporated into an environmental management system of the organization and met without exception.
